Notes |
McCormick was an All-Star with the San
Francisco Giants in 1960 & 1961. |
He won the National
League Cy Young Award for the Giants in 1967 |
|
From
the Royals 1971 Yearbook: |
Former Cy Young Award winner Mike
McCormick was signed by the Royals in the second week of the season to
add left-handed strength to the pitching staff. Manager Bob Lemon
said McCormick might be used as a spot starter and would see bullpen
duty. McCormick had gained 50 wins against only 37 losses the last
4 years, including a 2-0 record for the New York Yankees in 9 late
season appearances last summer. The winning string started in 1967
when he posted a sizzling 22-10 record for the San Francisco Giants to
win the Cy Young Award as the National League's finest pitcher. He
had been the NL earned run average king with his 2.70 in 1960. |
